1. Avocado Hand

Rice said that avocados are among the most commonly used food that can cause injuries during cooking. Rice laughed at this notion. Tri-County Sunday published last year that Rice treats “a majority of hand injuries every year following they’ve tried to remove pits that avocados have.” Rice said that there are 50,000 cases of injuries caused by avocados in America every year. Rice said that the flexor tendon may be injured, which makes it harder to bend the fingers.

It’s not a good idea to get all Food Network-y when you cut your avocado. Instead, grab an old kitchen towel to protect your hands. You can also employ a spoon to scoop out the pit and flesh.

2. Melon Mistakes

Rice stated that melons could create problems when cooking in the summer. Rice claimed that watermelon was one of the largest fruits. When cutting through a hard rind, be careful not to rush. You can reduce the chance of injury by cutting through a melon’s tough rind. This will create a an edge you can grasp while you trim the remainder. Some professionals recommend using simple dental floss to cut flesh from rind. You can also slice individual pieces of rind using similar methods.

To ensure that there is no bacterial contamination it is recommended to wash the melon before bringing it home from the fruit stand. However, before you slice the fruit, be sure the surface beneath and the knife are completely dry.

The same principle can be applied to spaghetti squash, pineapple, as well as other foods that have hard exteriors.

3. Glassware-related injuries
